Jamie Beck knew she was a photographer ever since she picked up her mom’s Pentax camera at age 13. Since then, she’s strived every day to improve her craft. Her Tumblr blog overflows with her work, her travels, and her adventures in food. A contributor to dozens of editorial, food, art, and fashion magazines, Jamie created the ongoing Polaroid Project earlier this year. “What I love about Polaroid film is the notion that you only get one shot. Unlike digital where you can take hundreds on the same subject, the limitations of Polaroid film make you slow down and really be ready to capture a single image,” she says.

Name Dean TrippeLocation Austin, TexasFirst Post November 2009

Self-described alien robot ninja wizard (from the future) Dean Trippe writes and draws comics. Dean is the mastermind of the hugely popular Project: Rooftop, a “superhero fashion site.” Earlier this year, he created the popular photo series Barack Obama Looking at Awesome Things which is amazingly self-explanatory (and awesome). Dean is passionate about comics as a storytelling medium, and uses his Tumblr blog to share his work and the work he loves. “Comics can tell absolutely any kind of story, but is also the birthplace of the current best iteration of the hero myths mankind has told itself since the beginning of time, the superhero,” he says.
